I was wondering what book between these three everyone thought was better. Think about it before just clicking Twilight Razz

Uglies
i like the Twilight series
but honestly, its been played out so many ways already
he Uglies series was kind of ideas already used as well
but as far as relating it to YA (or even morphing the old idea into something new) it did VERY well
i love ^-^

I wouldn't compare the two. I find that they are very different in many was, and to compare them to each other wouldn't do justice.

There are reasons i love Twilight and they are reasons why i like the Uglies Tril and neither of them overlap.

I'm with Suz. I don't particularly care for the HP series too much anymore, but for the other two, I just can't pick.

The Uglies series (does it count as a trillogy anymore because we know about Extras?) kicks butt. End of story.

It's so original, and the characters are fantastic! I mean, no offense to Edward, but his sexiness can't make up for the fact that Tally and David are awesome. And maybe Zane. And Croy.
jk.

Uglies is just my favorite book ever! :]

I chose Uglies as well. Scott just wrote that so wonderfully, and inserted all these ideas and thoughts in my brain that kept me pondering for weeks after finishing each book.
I really connected with the characters. All of them. Mainly Shay and not so much Tally, but in a way i was able to connect with all of them.

I love Twilight, and Stephenie is a fantastic writer as well, but she didn't really open any ideas for me. She didn't really make me think that much.

And Harry Potter. I think it is utterly amazing how Rowling was able to create this entire world and eveything in it. You must admit, its captivating.

I was caught between Uglies and Harry Potter.
I always liked books, but when I started reading Harry Potter in about Grade 4 or 5, i was brought back to the beauty of books. If that hadn't of come out, who knows if i would even be here?

Nevertheless, (love that word!) I chose Uglies. It all comes down to this:
Ever since primary school, Harry Potter had been my favourite book/series. I didn't even contemplate that another book could replace that. Books had come close, and a few became equal favourites, but nothing out and out replaced it. When I read Uglies, i began doubting my loyalty to Harry. If that makes any sense. If Scott made me doubt Harry, who knew what else I thought was right could be replaced?

I don't know if this is making sense to anyone.. Twilight is a captivating story with beautiful characters. Harry Potter is fun, imaginative and lets your imagination run wild. Uglies makes you think about EVERYTHING.

And I love to think.

There.... I think?

*applause*

Beautifuly said, Lil!
That's what I was thinking, but my friend was just like "duh, Uglies rocks. End of story."

So I put that.

Uglies does make you think a lot more. The story is much more open. It's way easier to think of fanfic stories for Uglies then HP or twilight. For me at least...

I have declined to vote, because I think each of them is better than others in terms of certain things.

In terms of characters, Twilight is superior to the other two. There are minutae of details written into the books that make the characters that much more real. Not to say that the other characters aren't compelling or identifiable, but their thoughts are not as clear.

Story wise, Uglies wins. It's detailed, the world is really well completed and made real. He stretches the imagination but doesn't make anything ridiculous. It's believable.

And Harry Potter is somewhere between the two. So really, it's a tie between Twilight and Uglies for me.

So I'm refusing to vote. Confused

well Ash i tend to agree with you on the charries vs. plot thing
but the final factor for me would have been the fact that Uglies was the book that got me so obsessed with it, and then i found Westerboard, lol
and without westerboard i would not be here and would not have met you guys
now if i had gotten into Twilight first i would have gone over to the Lexicon and then things would have taken a whole nother turn
no Vury
no Alec
no Garrick
no interactions with some of the most original charries i have ever known in RPGs
but that was just me
Uglies saved my life, bwahahaha! Cool

Hahaha, so true!!

Another thing (for me), is the author side of things.
Stephenie is an awesome writer (and New Moon is awesome, so I've heard *glares at bookstores*), but I just love all of Scott's books.
So that bumps up Uglies. Just knowing that the brilliant writer behind it has written more awesome books to feed my fanlust. Also, he spends half his time in Australia.

That gives him credit. Cool

Definitely the Uglies trilogy, the ideas in it are more original than those of Twilights. Also, the characters are more likeable.

I'm finally giving in and voting for Uglies, mostly because I think the ideas are more universally appealing. Twilight appeals to people who enjoy romance (it's not completely about that, but it is central). Uglies has a little bit of everything and a wider variety of people can find things to like about it. Plus, I think that the social commentary and the issues it presents are much more obvious than they are in Twilight. Uglies gets you thinking on a deeper level. I think that kind of thinking is absolutely possible with Twilight (as we've had discussions about the deeper things on here) but with Twilight you can attempt to ignore it, with Uglies you just can't.

Oh, Ash! Put very nicely!! Completely agree! (Look how many !! you are getting! Haha.)

I find Uglies to be more fun, as well. Well, maybe not fun... More exciting and adventerous, I think I mean.

I just realised that I have already voted on this poll, but I can't remember when. Confused I do know what I would have ended up picking, though.

I can't vote b/c there is no Midnighters. Sorry, but now it's just too hard... Mebbe Uglies? because being written by the same person as Midnighters helps. But Stephenie also wrote The Host, which I loved.... I dunno, I can't choosse between my 3 2nd fave books.

Yes, Midnighters is better [in my opinion] than all three books listed above. Which is why I can't' choose. I'd pick the Uglies series, but BD wa sooo good... And I recently reread some HP... Bleh, I dunno.

I think that when deciding between three books this good [in my opinion, anyway] It really depends what mood you're in. If you're in a romantic mood [Twilight] a magical mood [HP] or... An ugly mood?

But yeah, it all depends.
