Midnighters is being developed as a possible television show, what do we think about this?

In an interview it was said that they might change the Midnighters to mid to late twenties in age...good thing, bad thing?

I think that if Midnighters was on the CW...Scott Westerfeld could dominate the world. People would start reading the books, and then they'd read Uglies and such, and then we could definitely get it made into a movie, and with bigger name actors and actresses to make it even more famous. It picked the perfect network.

I still want them to be teenagers though, I mean, the CW needs a more teen-friendly show right now, they are really losing that target audience, and Midnighters could be just what they need.

I want to break the first book down into a season, and then send it to them, because I so could, even though it takes place in a matter of days.

I REALLY want them to keep the characters are teenagers. I've said this on the Westerboard as well, I think... It's pointless having 26 year olds sneaking out after "curfew". The entire school thing would be destroyed... And people in their 20's would think differently to teenagers.

The entire excitement of being the only people to experience the blue time would be dimmed down... I don't know. If they had a great cast, I might be happy.

That's what Scott said too, and I totally agree. So much of the magic would be lost if they weren't teenagers. I could agree with making them all about to graduate or something, but not in their twenties.

And also, Rex is 16. They can't make him older, 'cause then he will be more than 3 years older than me and that just can't happen.

I don't want anything like that to happen.. it could be a movie if they cast it well, but I'd still be scared to death they'd mess it up.

Hmm, it COULD be good... but with the recent rubbish (Supernatural, Gossip Girl, etc.) it would probably suck. They'd probably cast all these new-to-Hollywood kids with no talent (i.e. Penn Badgley) and the eeriness of midnight would be lost if we get to see it every week.

So... I don't know.

Penn Badgley = not new to Hollywood. IMDB, Iz.

and yea, when they casted the show, they would probably do that. That's kind of the whole point of the CW (the network in the US making those shows) though (which would probably have the show) it's teens and early twenties making shows for that age group. Anyone that age that is really established already wouldn't do a tv show on there.

A Midnighters TV show was being optioned a few years ago. It is not now.

The idea was being tossed around by people at the WB. When the WB and UPN merged the Midnighters TV show was one of the things to go down the drain.

How do I know this? Because when the admin of westerboard.com had lunch with Scott Westerfeld about three years ago this was one of the subjects. and he said because of the merger it was dumped.

I'm going to sound like a really bad Scott Westerfeld fan right now, but I'm glad that that happened (and am not terribly surprised that it did in the first place). Everything I'd heard about the possible Midnighters show made me twitchy.

Also, I think the Midnighters series would be better as a movie, anyway, if all three books were condensed into one. Yes, things would have to be taken out/reworked, but as long as they stayed true to the story, characters, and overall essence of the series, I think it'd work. Not holding my breath for something like this to happen, though; no books I read (that I like) get turned into movies. (Then again, that's probably a good thing, haha.)

Penn Badgley is fairly new. Sure, according to IMDB he's been playing characters in soaps like Will&Grace and weird Mario movies since the late '90s, but the only actual acting roles he's ever gotten was the part of Scott in John Tucker Must Die. So I reckon he's pretty new.

New or old, that doesn't take him out of the new category of male actors in Hollywood - edgy, male brunette actors who go from scene-to-scene with no expression like Steven Strait and Milo Ventimiglia and Jared Padalecki and Tom Welling.
