From the almighty Wikipedia:

Quote:
Leviathan is a book by Scott Westerfeld that comes out in September 2007. It is the first in a young adult fiction trilogy set in an alternate-history World War I involving living airships, and the main character will be the teenage son of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, and his love interest will be a cross-dressing Scottish girl.

"Cross-dressing Scottish girl," heheh.

remember that wiki is all information given by the public so it could be wrong.
I can't find anywhere that says that Leviathan is coming out in September but it could be right...i just doubt it.

Maybe it *is* coming out in September...just September 2008, not good old '07 like quoted. Maybe.

I know what Leviathan means! It was in my Philosophy textbook, haha.

Basically, it's the name of a mythological sea monster symbolizing evil in Christian writings. This dude named Hobbes, though, used the image to symbolize his belief in the need for a strong, authoritative central government that has to maintain control and order in the face of political turmoil.

The book is probably about the latter, but it'd be so cool to see a mythological sea monster thrown in there, too. ^^

Hahaha yeah you're reading this awesome involved book about politics and governments and zeppelins (hehe) then suddenly this giant sea monster appears and eats people. Actually. That would be freaking awesome.

Are people reading Scott's blog lately with all his gorgeous pictures?
It makes me want to a) live in Europe in mountains and b) ride/own a zeppelin. Heh.

He doesn't update all that frequently, so I rarely go now. I think I check Justine's blog more often than his. hehe. But I must go see those pictures now.

That and its overrun by over-obsessed scary tweens who now have nowhere to put their excess posts and energy seeing as New Westerboard collapsed.

I usually check it once every few weeks... Maybe more frequently if I remember. But his latest pictures are so.. pretty!

Saw this in a Publishers Lunch email today:

Quote:
Author of the Uglies series, Scott Westerfeld's trilogy LEVIATHAN, a steampunk-inspired, lavishly-illustrated, sci-fi-historical series that follows two unlikely teens on a fantastical adventure around the world, with the look and feel of a "boy's own adventure" series from the early 20th century, illustrated by Keith Thmpson, starting in fall 2009 and following annually, plus a color guide book published at the conclusion of the series, to Bethany Buck at Simon Pulse, by Jill Grinberg at Jill Grinberg Literary Management (NA).

Okay guys, I randomly bought Leviathan and Behemoth because I went on a book-buying binge and felt guilty that I had not read the most recent SW works. At first when I read about it I was all - this is not my Scott Westerfeld, but then I read it, and Iw as totally wrong.

IT'S SCOTT AT HIS MOST AWESOME.

Okay, So Yesterday is still my favorite book for my I'm-on-a-pedestal literary reasons, but these are pretty fantastical.

Having spent a lot of time this semester discussing the relevance of steam punk and a mixing of the old and new in A LOT of books and short stories, I must say these are excellent books.

They are VERY thoroughly researched. He does change actual historical events, but its in a logical manner, and in the back of the book he states what actually happened and where he got his inspiration from. Sometimes the new historical events reference the real historical event, and that can make your head spin a little bit. Also, the creatures in the book are awesome and creepy. mostly creepy, but by the time you are fnished with the first book you are just as at home on the Leviathan as Deryn and Alek.

Then of course there's the humor of a girl pretending to be a boy who falls in love with the real boy, and then a real girl falls in love with the fake boy.
Fantastic.

Seriously though, I just got my Deryn inspired boots this morning and I feel like a bad ass. She is absolutely one of my favorite Scott characters ever, right behind Tally. She beat out Shay and Jen. Deryn is brave and energetic and she has a potty mouth in Brit-speak, she is a fiercely loyal person and accidentally insightful. I just love her.
other awesome characters: Dr. Barlow (female) and Count Volger, who make everything in the story easier and harder at the same time.

At least this cleared up my fears that I am getting too old for Scott Westerfeld, because I definitely am not.
