I think enough of us here have read this series to warrant its own thread. ^^

Anyway. Chosen spoilers!

I was really excited about this book, but then ended up being disappointed. It was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two in the series. There should have been more focus on the Stevie Rae plotline! I mean, yeah, I'm glad Zoey's love trapazoid finally got resolved, but I got sick of reading about it after a while.

I hope that somehow Heath will still be in the books. Yeah, no more imprint, but he's amusing to read about! (Unlike Mister What's-His-Name...I mean, Erik, haha.)

And I'm really starting to like Aphrodite. She, Stevie Rae, and Heath are tied for my favorite character in the series, heh.

I can't wait for the next book, though. So many loose ends!

I'm with you. I liked it, and I'm glad the plot is moved forward, but it was a lot of wasted pages getting to the point.

There's no way they are getting rid of Heath. no way.

Didn't this hit #02 on Best-Sellers in UK or something?

Yeah, I've read it. A bit too vapid for me though, I like Zoeey's narration though. Some of the characters are pointless--The Twins and Damian, are completely cardboard cut-out sort of characters, just pushed in to complete "the circle" or whatever. And some pointless storylines like a chemistry-lacking relationship (Zoeey/Eric)

I agree about the Zoey/Erik relationship being empty. They never felt like a couple to me, and when his character came up in book 2, it took me a little bit to even remember who he was, haha.

But maybe I'm just anti-Erik in general because Heath is so much more amusing to read about, heh.

Heath is definitely more amusing...haha. I feel like Erik is more attracted to Zooey than she is to him - she just thinks he's good looking and that's awful shallow. Then again, what does Zooey really have with Heath other than history? Sure he knows about her crappy mom and stuff, but what does he really know about what she likes?
All her romantic relationships are shallow. The only actual relationship with any depth is between her and Stevie Rae.

I like Zooey's personal commentary and her sarcasm, but at the same time I think she's an idiot. I get that she can't tell her friends what is going on, but you can explain to them to a point where they will still be safe, ya know? I hate when they do that in books, its really unrealistic to me. Even with her gut-goddess feelings...there's gotta be some sort of explanation. Even just straight up explaining that yes there's something you just can't tell them yet is enough.

So, I finally read the fourth book, Untamed...

...and I liked it.

I was so afraid I wouldn't, with how disappointing Chosen was. I was guarded early on, though, especially when they introduced Stark's character. (My thoughts were somewhere along the lines of, Oh, no, not ANOTHER boy for Zooey.) That's still my main quibble about the book: even though his character is interesting and I can see the potential for a connection between him and Zooey, it felt like the Casts tried to force it too early for the sake of the plot.

And I have to admit, I was upset at first when Erik returned, but ended up liking his role in this book. Hopefully, he and Zooey will just be friends in the long run and not hook back up together, 'cause I don't think I could stand that.

There were a lot of things I loved, though, like Aphrodite's character development -- my view of her has changed so much since the first book, and her human-but-still-special status is a much more compelling arc than Zooey's uber-powerful-fledgling one. That, plus her naming her cat Maleficent has made her my favorite in the series, heh.

Oh, and for the actual plot...loved it. It was a little slow at times, but more well-balanced than the previous book, and it had a nice weaving-in of mythology. The friends' hate-age wasn't dragged out, there was a nice dash of ominousness, and things are finally starting to pick up pace. The book ended at a spot where it felt like it was, at most, only 2/3s in, but I'm still looking forward to the next one.

...and this post is ended up being a bit longer than planned. Oops. *shuts up now*

I was also disappointed with where Untamed ended...I was like...wait...I don't know anything! Usually they leave me with a better idea of what to expect.

Zooey and all her guys has always bugged me, because I don't think any of them are right for her. Erik is too...pretty, in a lot of ways. Like I know deep down he's trashy because of the way he always got it on with Aphrodite. And Heath...while totally loveable as a character, deserves a human with a heart, who doesn't think of him as an idiot with tasty blood. I actually liked Stark for Zooey, I don't think he would have put up with some of her crap. He would have balanced her out.

And I'm pretty sure this thing they brought back from underground is going to want Zooey more than he wants anyone else too.

Aphrodite is really growing on me. And I loved the nuns. There was a line in this that just killed me...when Zooey tells her to "hold onto your wimple." Just the use of the word wimple had me giggling.

The next one is out in March...I guess we'll see how it goes. I'm a little nervous it will suck. But I like that the books are getting longer. How many do you think there will be?

Oh, yes, the nuns...love 'em. I really started liking the book when they appeared. (Finally, Zoey's Christian stereotypes are being challenged!)

As for how many books there'll be...I think there was originally supposed to be just six, but they've been upped to nine. Hopefully the series won't completely fizzle-out by the end...

I just read Hunted and it took me awhile, but eventually I loved it. Some things felt like they were drawn out too much, but at the same time there was a lot of explanation necessary to have everything make sense. A book finally ended at a logical point, and I think two more books should finish out the story adequately. With a war, of course, lol.

Asss usual, Zoey has too many boys. It gets a little annoying, but I think things are finally going to sort out with that because some of the relationships didn't ring true this time. You didn't like Heath with Zoey, you didn't like Erik with Zoey. You definitely don't like Kalona and Zoey. And at first you don't like Stark and Zoey, but that one is growing on me. Too much relationship drama! Although apart from the vampire aspect...it's not exactly untrue that things can be like that in high school. I have the stories to prove it.
Alright, I won't lie, I freaking love Stark. I was always kinda "eh" about the other guys, but I just dug him right away. Even his dark side, which in this book is pretty damn dark.

I was much happier with this book than with the last one. I am excited about the series again and where it is going. They also did some pretty fun stuff at the end, although the final "showdown" was a little short and rushed, but very effective. Also, I feel like they backed away from really going into what has happened to Neferet. They danced around it, like they haven't made up their minds where they intend to go with her.

I feel like this is the first time they really wandered into the moral side of everything, the choices between good and evil and love and lust and things like that. They always danced around it before, but this is the first book that states it really overtly. In a way...if I had to pick a "big series" to compare it to, i.e. Harry Potter or Twilight, I'm going to say it's more Harry Potter. It's a battle, it has a more applicable moral message (because it's not just about romantic love), and because the people come out of it scarred and damaged. It just feels like a more legit series when the ending isn't a stupid fairytale.

Anyways, I think me and Heather are the only ones that really keep up with this series, so yea, Heather. Read it when you get the chance, haha.

oh yea, Aphrodite, totally my favorite character. She's the most real.

Funnily enough, I was at the bookstore today and saw Hunted. I stared at it for a few seconds, debating if I should buy it, then didn't. I told myself it's just because I want the paperback version, but really, this series has lost its Must-Readness for me. Your description of it makes me wish I would've given in to the urge to buy it, though (well, except for the too-many-boys part, haha. Enough already!). Love it when books delve into good-and-evil moralness.

Oh my goodness! Best/worst house of night book! This is the first one to make me cry. Heather, you are really going to hate the end. Things finally get sorted with the boy drama, and things get answered about kalona. Man, this was so worth buying right away.

Has another book come out in the series already? The latest one I've read is UNTAMED! I really need to go to a bookstore or library soon.

...Oh, gosh. I can't even remember the last time I went to a bookstore or library. Months ago, probably. *dies*

The newest one is called Tempted...and it is seriously good.
It's the first time that Zoey really acts like a 17 year old. She is much less immature in this book. Things also get simplified a bit with her boy relationships, and even though there are still more than one of them, things have been defined and there is much less drama about that (for the last 3/4ths of the book anyways).
And basically, and FINALLY Zoey's purpose for being chosen by Nyx is revealed. There's even a plan of sorts, and her friends and her are finally working like a team again. The circle is back together.
This is the first book that is written from multiple points of view as well. I'm glad they waited until the characters were more developed and known by the readers before they did that. You learn a lot more about certain characters.
The ending though, is really really sad. This is not a series that makes me cry. I barely teared up when I thought Stevie Rae was dead, but this one...this one made me lose it. I never cry in front of my boyfriend, but I was reading it in his room and I lost it a little. A sob may have escaped.
I will say it is not Grandma. That would be an outrage. But I was totally shocked and not ready for it.
I don't have high expectations for the next book (Burned) because it's going to be the right-before-the-plunge story, ya know? it will be the recovery from the last book and basically the plan phase and leave you waiting for the action until the next book. Which means that book will be awesome.

speaking of books...any updates on your next one Heather?

17-year-olds are supposed to be mature? That's news to me. Razz

And this book is told from multiple points of view? Awesome! Now I have to start reading this series again so I can see how the Casts handle differing perspectives.

And updates from me...uh...no comment. I've been in a very bad mental state this year and don't want to mention anything until I'm certain it's not my irrational self talking.

I finally read Hunted and *gasp* liked it, despite all the boy drama that needs to die. (I wanted to hurl the book after Heath got sucked back into the Zoey Vortex, heh.) It had an edge-of-your seat feel, and the story felt more balanced than the past two. I'm actually looking forward to reading Tempted!
