To each their own i must say.

Everyone has different opinions and tastes as to what they like and feel is "better"

think of it this way.. if someone doesn't share the same opinion as you that is one less person you have to share them with..

k lets be nice and considerate of other's thoughts and opinions.

Edward fans should be happy that there are so many Jacob followers because it means there's more Edward booty for them to share. Hehe.

Edward, because Jacob is too young. I don't like Edward or Bella and I like Jacob as a person in the book, so yeah. Bella likes to befriend supernatural people, because she's too good for Mike or Jessica or anyone else, obviously.

Wait.. woah. Izzy chose Edward??? Because Jacob is too young? Does this mean that being too young is worse than being a "paedophile"? Hehehe.

brilliant BRILLIANT essay. Thanks so much for the link. Yay! I've never considered the entire aspect of Bella's perspective before and I'm so glad this opened my mind to it.

Twilight = Edward <3
New Moon = Mostly Edward && a little bit of Jacob
Eclipse = Surprisingly mostly Jacob, although I still love Edward

My maths teacher hates me, probably because I am drawing in her class all the time. But I have an excuse. I am an VSL.

Edward rocks! But I rarely think about him to be honest, I am always to busy thinking of other things, tuning out, FHA, and ect. SO busy in my head XD

honestly i adored Edward during Twilight
he was so cute and gentleman-like and completely perfect

then, after blacklisting New Moon because I knew Edward would not be in it for most of the book, I read it and had to read it a second time because I found myself not caring that Edward was gone and instead that I was falling for Jacob

In Eclipse, I got slightly annoyed with Jacob, but after New Moon I had fallen just as hard (if not harder) for Jacob as I did for Edward - so i forgave him of a lot of things
and all through Eclipse Edward was just sickening me because he was TOO 'perfect' and completely unreal and I hate the cliche romantic dribble he was spouting
and to me, personally, it was enough to want to punch him in his pretty marble face ^o^ lmao

which would result in Meg having a very broken hand.
I agree, but at the same time I think we forget the power Bella has over Edward that turns him into that dribbling romantic: I don't think any of us know what it's like to be heroine addicts, and to be drawn to something so powerful like that. I feel that is lost in the later books.

thats very true
but its almost like she is objectified for him
always stuck as the lamb, the innocent, the little girl
and i dont like that he never lets her grow
and ironically he wants to make her a vampire
where she will never age physically at all
its like he wants her permanently as she is and never see anything more
think about how many times he tries to steer her away from doing something or keep her on the sidelines
i just dont like the big cloak he puts over her, like she will be how he wants her to be and nothing more
which is totally NOT what he is doing (on purpose anyway) but it sure seems like it :/

he doesn't want to make her a vampire though. he's perfectly fine with loving her until she is old and wrinkly and dies a natural death. the turning thing is all on Bella.

well true
i guess he is redeemable in that aspect
i truly did love Edward
and its sad that i am so anti-Edward now Sad
but he is just...not the same after being introduced to Jacob
kind of like if you have a painting in your room
and you love it and you seem like you know every detail forwards and back
but then you go to look up the meaning of it in an Art History book and you find that there are hidden meanings that you didn't know before
its a complete shift of perspective
it has happened to me many times in art school
you can initially look at something and just think "wow, thats pretty"
but then the teacher will tear it apart bit by bit with perspective and lines and yada yada yada
and then you have the complete other side of that where a person explains a concept behind a piece
i once saw these gorgeous pictures of flowers
minimal lighting, high color on the parts that were shown, and crisp detail
i thought their vibrancy was electrifying
but the artists statement next to it told me that those pictures were about loneliness
so i looked at them with a new pair of eyes
and still didn't see it XD XD XD

whole point is: i loved Edward like i loved a piece of art
but then once seeing a piece of art named Jacob..it was like Edward was only a sketch
or was diminishing
i dont know
i am getting everyone lost and confused because i doubt any of you know the psycho art school babble i am dishing out >.<
*is shutting up*

I get it completely. I like the idea that Edward is a sketch. I really think he has much less depth as a character than Jacob does. Jacob is so much deeper.
I still like Edward though. All the women in the world who get treated like crap deserve an Edward. The idea of him is good, even the book actuality is not. Does that make sense?

A couple nights from now a friend and I are making "team Edward" and "team Jacob" shirts. haha.

I OWN JACOB BLACK'S HEART.

I have a friend who just started a job at a store where she has to do a lot of engraving, and this was one of her practice pieces. She made my friend Annie one that said Edward. Her original plan was to put Jacob on the red side and Edward on the other - but she knows me. I own Jacob. haha.

Lauren-la wrote:
I really did like Jacob in New Moon. He was Bellas friend, no questions asked, unlike Jess, but without really trying to pressure her into liking him, like Mike. Jacob was just nice. And he is really tall, which is pretty cool Wink

But, of course, nothing compares to Edward. I think that if you could put Jacobs niceness and recklessness in with Edwards body and musical talent/compassion/protectiveness/awesome family/Edwardness - then you could have a perfect guy.

Why do people always feel it necessary to bash-out on Jessica? Basically every Twilight forum (apart from Lexicon, which doesn't allow bashing) has done this, and I don't see why. You're allowed to have you're own opinion and all, but Jessica was no way near as annoying as Edward. The whole book being in Bella-perspective (and with Bella just being an extremely pathetic oerson), of course she managed to point out ALL the faults in everyone BUT Edward.

Jessica is congratulating her about scoring on Edward over the phone and Bella thinks she's going a bit too far, or too much, and quickly ends the call. BUT she allows Edward to constantly ask her questions about her mother, what they do in the spare time, etc. Of course if Bella or Mike or Jacob had been doing that, they were immediately "stalking" her in her opinion.

Oh yeah and then Edward watches her when she's sleeping (which I don't blame him for, being a vampire you get A LOT of spare time), and Bella goes all, "You were watching me? Cool." But if it was Mike she would have spat at him and gone all, "WOULD YOU STOP STALKING ME? WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?"

On the first day at the school when that guy (Eric or something, can't remember these names), asks if he can show her around the school, he is INSTANTLY dubbed "over-enthusiastic, nerdy boy" in her mind. But of course Edward (who she barely knew at the time) is allowed to forceable take her to Seattle and back. Of course he's not being over-enthusiastic, of course he's not stalking her.

He's constantly staring at her, Bella doesn't mind. Mike's looking at her too, but she's mentally insulting him every moment she can.

Over-all in all of Stephenie's books, only three characters I really liked; Charlie, Jacob and Angela. Then the rest basically SUCKED. Bella, Edward and Carlisle are the most vapid characters I have ever read about. Edward is so incredibly boring, isn't his room similar to a CD store or something? Putting aside all physical traits there is VERY little to Edward, he has constant mood-swings (going from mildly happy with Bella to suddenly all, "OH NO. I am the wrong man for you. I can't make you happy!") but then gets all over-protective when Jacob comes around. He constantly forces her to eat, since she's human, she obviously must eat whenever HE wants. One point of the book where he forces her to a restaurant after she's almost been attacked stays in my mind, and of course she just lets him take her there. Every part of the story concerning Edward has been made to enhance the readers attraction to him. Constant descriptions of him (the description every here and there is nice, but Twilight is flocked with descriptions of his eyes), the part where the waitress in the restaurant gets all angry because he's looking at Bella (real people do not act like that).

Okay, that's enough...

I actually agree with a lot of the things you've said, though to a lesser extent. I agree--Edward and Bella can get boring, but for the latter of these two, I think you've overlooked the fact that Bella has had to grow up fast. She had to mature in order to cope with her mother's own childishness, and that has impacted her in many ways.

As for the comment she made about Eric, it was mean, but I think that many of us would automatically assume something similar (not the same, but similar) to this if we were approached by a person like Eric during our first day of school in a new town. I don't like the fact that any human friends Bella may have are never held in quite as high a regard as the vampires and werewolves she knows. She doesn't really show much respect for Jessica, Mike and the like. Angela's the only person Bella really talks to, and even that's when she isn't with Edward.

About the limits Bella imposes on other people in her life, I think it's fair that Edward is allowed to get more personal with her. He is her boyfriend after all, and she's convinced he's the love of her life. Bella is so absorbed in the "perfection" of Edward that she allows him to get away with a lot more than others would. And we can't really blame her, can we? We've never met the dazzling vampires that Stephenie has created. They really have that effect on humans in the novel and we've got to learn to accept it.

And I like Jessica. She's human, has flaws, but is ultimately there for Bella as a friend, despite the lack of attention she receives from her.

I'm just wondering how people even LIKED this book? I hated it personally, would someone tell me why they like it?

The origins of the story are interesting, the female lead is incredibly weak, detestable with few redeeming qualities and extremely boring. The romance in itself is 2D and pointless; Bella loves Edward for his looks, Edward loves Bella for her smell. The only action in the book is at the end and it is abrupt compared to the lazy, hypnotic previous pages.

The only character that is surprisingly interesting is Jacob (and Charlie), and Bella barely speaks to him, the only times when she does are to gather more information on the Cullens? Can she be any more obsessed? Can she get a life. She's a younger version of a Stepford wife in the making!

She cleans, cooks, cleans, cries, sleeps, cleans, cries, does her homework, cries because she did her homework, cleans, cries, cooks, cleans... geesh.

Why couldn't Bella have been a smart, strong-minded and cool heroine like Tally Youngblood or Kate Forrester? Why were the majority of the pages in the book full of constant description of Edward and his family? Why didn't Stephenie ELABORATE on her main character?

Can someone tell me why they liked this book?

this is why I love you Izzy. no one else has put that statement that way before in my experience. they always use the word 'scent.'
I think I find I prefer smell.

Twilight was intriguing because even if the characters were weak and had faults, they were well-developed. I also enjoyed the representation of vampires, their strengths, and even in the following books discovering their weaknesses (aside from people.)
I liked it because Bella is so clumsy she's handicapped.
Also, because the romance that actually occurs between Bella and Edward is what the majority of teenage girls envision in their heads. I'm not saying you, or all girls, but there are a lot of girls out there who want a take charge man, or at least think that they do. Someone who is going to take care of them and fiercely protect them. There are people who grew up in a situation where that would be appealing to them. I can fault no one for that. Stephenie appeals to the deep inner romantic that lies at the heart of many women.

I just realized why I like Jacob more than Edward - I see Jacob as a challenge. He would disagree and fight and protect all at the same time. Edward leaves no room for argument.

Gosh Edward reminds me a lot of my current boyfriend...weird.

anyways, I hope that kind of answered your question. That's my answer JUST for Twilight though. My reasons for New Moon are a lot more to do with the writing and the crystal clear depictions of grief.

Oh wow, thanks!

Yeah, I get it. Some people would like the idea of a "take charge" man as you put it yourself, yeah... a guy that would protect them, stay near them, be romantic, look after them and do nothing too scary, like you know, have sex... But I sort of hate that sort of stuff, and Edward CAN be insensitive (IMO) like, for example when he forced Bella to eat after she had almost been robbed.

Warning bells? haha. Edward really doesn't leave any room for argument. ick.
There need to more Jacobs.

And I agree with what you're saying about the appeal of Edward as a "take charge" man.
I've never the kind of girl to like that, and when I first read Twilight, what interested me about Edward was the leadup to his romance with Bella. The first 12 chapters are still my favourite part of Twilight. Edward was such a mystery, and he really intrigued me.

Then along came Jacob. It was really an eye-opening experience for me.
Edward was amazing. He really was. But he was one thing, and Jacob was an entirely different feeling. There was no way I could have picked Jacob out earlier because he just wasn't in the same league as Edward. He was in a different one, and much further ahead, I have to say.
