yay!
I don't think he's particularly Edwardy, but he's good looking, his voice is VERY MUCH how I imagine Edward's, and I have faith in his acting.
I'm glad I no longer have to wait. Relief!

lol i just thought about this casting decision again... and hahaha i actually squeed

they had some information about Rob doing this roll on the leaky cauldron website and i checked out the comments. and well most were good but then there was a few that were like nooo! he will always be cedric to me.. I really wanted to say that he was in that one movie for all of 20 minutes of that.. get over it!

once they finish filming this move (and if they do the other three *crosses fingers and prays*) Robert Pattinson will be known as Edward not as Cedric..

oh and SQUEEEE!!!

I agree with your SQUEE!!!
all my Twilight reading friends are really excited by this casting. He's not MY Edward, but he's Edward in general. If that makes sense.
I like best how Stephenie said it: There are few actors who can look both beautiful and dangerous at the same time.
The kissing is going to be SO hot.

Incredibly so.

Seriously, if you were a guy, wouldn't you prefer to be known as THE Edward rather than pfft Cedric?
Honestly.

Edward would get you more ladies.

WORST Edward I have ever seen. And I have seen some pretty bad choices (Zac Efron, Jesse McCartney, Tom Welling, etc). He looks pretty bad IMO, and he CANNOT act. He was terrible in Harry Potter, he's going to look so bad next to Kristin Stewart, he looked bad next to Daniel Radcliffe, that's enough said!

Edward would get you more ladies? Only the "bookie" type (no offence if you get offended by that) would be attracted to Edward as a person. And he's going to be better known as Cedric, more people have read Harry Potter than Twilight, and the movie is going to adult. And the kissing won't be hot, this is Kristin Stewart we're talking about, she's a versatile actress, she can do many things, but not love scenes, she's one of the actresses who can't create chemistry with another character to save her life. And I know Kristin isn't seen as attractive (personally, I reckon she is) by many people, but you don't need to be a Jessica Alba or Eva Longoria to have chemistry, Renee Zelwegger isn't that pretty in my opinion, but she's one of those actresses who do chemistry EXTREMELY well, and she's a terrific actress.

Pity, after casting Cedric, there's very little chance they're going to cast Salma Hayek as Esme, Elisha Cuthbert as Rosalie, Charlie Hunnam as Carlisle (but then he already said he was against vampire movies) or Rachel Leigh-Cook as Alice.

Nah I just meant the fact that Edward is kind of a lead role, so he will be in the entire movie, where as Cedric was more a small-part side character.

I dunno, Twilight is pretty big, and the majority of fan girls that like Cedric are between the ages that Twilight is aimed at.

Hmm... I'm starting to like this guy.

I re-read Twilight over the weekend, this time I humoured Bella's pathetic-ness instead of going against it in rage so I didn't mind the book as badly as I did my first time. It was a very good idea to choose an english actor as Edward, I imagine everything Edward said in a foreign accent, preferably english.

I just hope this movie makes Edward, Bella and the rest of the cast more well-rounded than Stephenie did in the books, which will be extremely hard considering movies usually show 2D versions while books show the 3D thing (unless it's got a lot of demand i.e. Harry Potter). And yeah, I agree with you Lil about Cedric being side and Edward being the male lead, but a lot more people have read Harry Potter than Twilight, there are Harry Potter posters in childrens bedrooms all the way to Africa, Twilight is a sort of love-it-or-hate-it and put-it-down-once-you've-finished-reading-it-and-forget-about-it sort of book.

The main people buying Twilight are adults, obviously. I doubt the entire teen girl population (or a large majority) would buy Twilight and be attracted to Edward, 1) because not everyone reads as diversely and 2) there are more girls who would much rather hook-up with Zac Efron than Edward Cullen. Edward is for a particular type, and it doesn't apply to everyone. That's why I think the main reading market for Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse are young adult-adult.

This movie will also, hopefully, be short. Because I doubt the movie producers and directors would be able to put down a large chunk of the book into the movie as the majority of the pages in Twilight consist of endless descriptions of how attractive Edward is and particular emphasis on his eyes. That would bore the viewer to death, if they have constant replays of a love-sick Bella staring at Edward's eyes. Characters like Jacob and Jessica who I think would appeal to the majority of viewers would have to be in the movie more than they are in the books, and since Jacob won't be in the movie at all (and therefore there will be no New Moon), there will have to be scenes of Bella actually being nice to Jessica, and responding to other school friends like Mike, etc. Mean Girls was such a huge hit, not just because of the good cast but also because side-characters were well-rounded, we saw enough of them to have an opinion of them. Twilight (which is Bella-Edward, Edward-Bella all of the time) would be timelessly boring without well-cast and humorous side-characters.

I'm glad they haven't cast Emily Browning now (I never liked her for Bella, but prefered her to Kristen), has anyone seen her in the street parties? Barely recognisable. She's lost the Bella-ness that originally made her such a popular choice.

I think they are making it more of an ensemble film than focusing around one star.

I have to disagree with you about the audience Iz...she's internationally referred to as the next J.K. Rowling...most people I know who don't read have heard of Twilight.
most of my friends are boys, and they knew about it without me ever saying a word.
There are girls in the dorm I work in who really don't read who have read Twilight.
I caught one girl crying in our activity room because she had just finished Eclipse, and I wouldn't have believed it if someone told me she read a book, let alone a book like Twilight.

I totally understand why it is unappealing to you, but I think you are seriously underestimating the popularity of this novel because of your own distaste. The romance novel industry is BOOMING, it always has, it always will.

Woah! You serious? But then, that's America, where Twilight is set. In UK (Harry Potter), there are so many little children wearing wizard hats and rushing to the movies with broomsticks. This probably doesn't happen in America, because it doesn't happen in Australia. I'm saying probably because I'm not entirely sure on this, correct me if I'm wrong.

I never said Twilight wasn't famous. I'm speaking about people who will actually go to the movies. People have heard of things and haven't done them. I've heard of a certain movie called SHOWGIRLS, a lot of people have, it's completely infamous -- I'm not about to watch it. I'm guessing that the majority of your friends who are boys won't be going to the movies either, once again, I'm guessing.

I actually believe the books are ridiculously popular, you don't feel the same way as me and I accept that, but this book being New York Bestseller? WHAT!? It's well-written, but no way near good enough to even reach that sort of level, Stephenie doesn't do anything amazing in this book. And I haven't heard about Stephenie being the "next J.K Rowling", but she has barely reached the amount of success and got as much publicity as J.K Rowling.

Now a lot of girls are waiting anxiously for the next High School Musical movie, I don't know, but the 12-14 year olds crushing on Zac Efron aren't about to like Edward Cullen, I don't know but someone who has posters of a Disney star IMO isn't about to be seduced by a bunch of words describing Edward Cullen.

doooood. Shocked
I was one of those people who dressed up to go to the Harry Potter movies. Not as extreme as some, but I totally wore my Ravenclaw socks and a pleated skirt with a very large cloak-y jacket. I have worn those socks to the first time I saw ever HP movie, although not always necessarily with the accompanying things. I just kind of assumed that everywhere had people doing that.

Although people dressing up for HP is nowhere NEAR as crazy/frightening/humorous as the people who dress up for Star Wars. That was a completely new experience.

girls are seduced by love stories. most girls that are crushing on the Zacinator are awkward and self-conscious. they would eagerly delve into a character as awkward and self-conscious as them that could score a total fox. it might give them easily crushable high expectations, but awkward kids live vicariously.

the fact that Twilight is this weird phenomenon surprises me as well. it's a teen supernatural romance book. it makes you stop for a second when you examine it's popularity and go..."um...what?"

Really? I didn't know people in America dressed-up as well. Hmm, okay.

But saying that girls who fall in love with romantic characters in romance characters are unawkward and free-spirited whilst girls who crush on Zac are is incorrect I reckon. The girl who originally fell in love with Edward was awkward herself! Bella lived to the epitome of "living vicariously", she did everything to please her mother, and when she found love, Edward.

But yes I do agree, ARE girls who constantly crush on Zac ARE awkward, but that doesn't mean girls that fall in love with characters in romantic novels are any less awkward. I don't know, since I haven't fallen in love with either, and I don't know if it's even possible to fall in love with a character from a book in that sort of way.

I wasn't saying they were less awkward, I was saying they were equally as awkward.

Are you serious, Izzy?! Twilight is so incredibly popular its insane! Well, that is what I have found.. Maybe its just not as popular where you are. I know quite a few people who have read / are in love with Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse. Not as many as what Ash was saying, but still a fair few who aren't really into books.

Plus, it is sooo very popular in America, you can tell that simply by all the awards it has won. As you said yourself, Twilight got #1 New York bestseller.. how? There are so many better books out there. It just shows the power of popularity. With so many people liking it, it MUST deserve an award, right? Well.. That is the logic I'm using anyway.

I still think the market Twilight is aimed at is teen/YA. That doesn't necessarily mean 12-14 yr olds, even though they do fall in that category. I was thinking more 13-17 for teenage years. Obviously a lot of older people like the book as well (please note that by older I mean 18-25.. not that old.. haha), but I still think a lot of Stephenie's audience is in the teenage mark.

I don't think Stephenie is the next J.K Rowling at ALL, and Twilight will never be as popular as Harry Potter. Ever. Harry Potter is way more unisex and is available to such a wider audience, age-wise and country-wise. Twilight is still a really popular book, though.

Also, I'd like to add.. I kinda dressed up for le Harry as well. A little bit for the movies, heaps for Deathly Hallows.. I have a Hufflepuff scarf, yo!

Ash.. you seriously make my day. Hahaha, that is a brilliant line!
