my friend down the street (Jenny) is in love with the Twilight series as much as I am
and we both fell for Jacob after New Moon ^.^
Edward got scooted to the back for us both

Point of the post is: she and I make regular trips to Barnes & Noble
why? cause we are dorks, lol
And she is leaving just after Eclipse is released
August 1st I am pretty sure
Either way I have saved up money cause she went to the customer service desk and reserved two copies

I have never reserved a copy of a book in my life
so this, to me, is monumental ^.^

Well, at least it's for Eclipse. I'm not going to be waiting for it to come out in Australia, so I think I'll be getting the book... a week or so after it comes out. SQUEE!

apparently (from news on my LJ friends list) some people got the book 2 days ago
and they didnt like it
it put me in a sour mood last night
but when i am on my way to B&N
and when the book is finally in my hands
you have no idea how much i wont care what they think
cause i will have had more Jacob for my Jacob-fix
(oh yeah, and there is some kind of plot right?) ^.-

My mom and I went to the bookstore today and each ended up with our own stack of happy-making readingness to buy. As I waited for her to finish paying for her stack, I saw a mountain of Eclipse books on display. I only managed to count to around fifty before I had to stop and go. That amount is just...wow. Poor trees.

If Bella was so ready to die for Edward - and turn into a vampire for him - in the first book... then why is she suddenly in this badly-written, soap opera-ish situation where she has to CHOOSE between Jacob and Bella? What happened to loving Edward forever?

She's laughable to a point where she can't be taken seriously.

you are missing the point that there was a whole other book between the first book where she was completely ready to die to be with Edward, and Eclipse where she isn't so sure

Its like ordering something at a restaurant and loving it, then it being your regular order
But then something new comes out at the restaurant, and it sounds appealing
So you get that
They both taste wonderful
And you dont JUST order the first one
You want to change it up with the new one as well

To follow with this metaphor, its like Bella being asked to decide which dish is her favorite and which one will be her new regular order
Does she go with the tried and true?
Or the new and interesting?

Both different flavors completely
But both so very good ^.^

No... it's more like...

Going to a restaurant and claiming to only eat one particular food... setting it on a higher step from the other foods. Then spend so much time going to the restaurant, shunning the other food and only eating that one particular type - which you claim you will "die" if you ever stop eating it.

What Bella felt for Edward can't be described through restaurant foods well... she was so delusional, her feelings were so immature. I don't know why people say she's a mature girl - she's insecure, unintelligent, bias and plain pathetic.

Also, putting Jacob - I mean, he's sixteen for god's sake - through a love affair like that... how does anyone that age deserve to be put through something like that from their first crush? I hope someone tells Bella what an insecure, bitchy person she is to her face - but I doubt it. Stephenie apparently based the character on herself...

I am with you on the I-Hate-Bella ship (maybe not as intense as the ship you are on XD you seem to really loathe her, lol)
But I agree with her being immature and stuff

As far as Bella putting Jacob through what he is going through, he kind of threw himself at HER

As did Edward, in her defense
She came to Forks thinking she was average
And since the first day everyone was all "OMGILOVEYOU,YOUARESOAWESOME"

But once the ball gets rolling and she loses some of her innocence and naiveness then she does kind of lose track of herself (and all likeability as a character for me)

She is needy, clingy, helpless, and weak
All are not my favorite qualities in female protagonists
If Thursday Next met Bella she would kick her ass, lol

Thursday Next would kick anyone's ass, haha... apart from Maximum Ride. Bella's immaturity can only be matched by Kaye from Tithe.

Kaye was immature, but she was clever and figured out solutions to problems really well
Bella doesnt even have THAT going for her :/

ps. how many of the Thursday Next series have you gotten through? I have finished the first two and have the next two on my bookshelf
I still gotta find the sequel that Fforde wrote too
so much ThursNext love XD

I didn't know what to expect when I read it, but it was so addicting
I was overjoyed when I read that he had three more after

Lost in a Good Book is the second one
I was just lucky enough to find all three books at Barnes and Noble one day
And so instead of buying them all one by one, I just picked all of them up and it cost me a hella lot @.@
The only ones I don't have now are The Eyre Affair and Thursday Next: A Sequel (or w/e its called)

and to get back on topic:
I cant see how they are going to make the next two books in the Twilight series movies
They have them all lined up for movies - but really the first one is the one with the action
The next books dont really have anything but drama with the love triangle and Victoria keeps trying to kill Bella, lol

Are they all signed up for movies? I thought they would wait to see how succesfully the first one did before trying out for others...

But yeah, I agree. There's virtually no action with either New Moon or Eclipse - maybe they'll be short?

But there's very little action in Twilight as well (a few pages around the end of the book).

well they are changing it around i think
but i think i heard that they were going to make more movies

but even without action they can make it purely romance based
i mean look at Ps. I Love You and the Notebook and Atonement
(I havent seen them, but they all seem to be doing very well in the boxoffice)

PS. I Love You, The Notebook and Atonement all have plot and stuff. Twilight doesn't have a lot of plot. A huge chunk of the book is made up of Bella fantasizing about Edward - they can't do that in the movie, people will get bored.

Well there is that chunk with the Volturi though
they could work with that
But thats from New Moon

When it gets around to Eclipse they will have to go the Victoria route right?
Which is boring x.x

They have plot enough to get away with it
But I think most of it will be love-triangle
which..is also boring x.x

I think i would feel better about these being movies if Jacob was better cast >.<

Maybe that guy from Prince Caspian
Or the guy from that Amanda Bynes movie, What a Girl Wants? is that it?

i disagree, movie magic can do anything

or!
maybe they can make Sharkboy the YOUNG Jacob
and then once he gets older they can make one of those two (or someone older/hotter) be the older Jacob

because it says that he looks 20 or something in the books right?
yurp ^.^

Yeah, that could work...

Oliver James is too skinny though. And Ben Barnes has a spanish accent.
Maybe they could get Steven Strait, isn't he the popular choice?

Anyway - they've got a crap actor to play Jacob. He was horrible in Cheaper By The Dozen 2.

Jake is supposed to look between 20 and 25 after he becomes a werewolf. Steven Strait is only 22.

*cracks knuckles* here goes...

This is how Edward/Bella/Jacob works.

Edward LEFT.

It doesn't matter how much she loves him, that HURT her. Bella was destroyed. This is written clearly.

Bella tries to do what Edward told her to and tries to have a life again.

Enter Jacob Black, who not only completely understands how hurt and messed up she is, he doesn't even care. He just likes being around her and trying to make her feel better. It's pretty natural for the part of Bella that is still alive to develop feelings, and hope, that even if it wouldn't compare to Edward, she might have a chance to be happy again. The only problem is she doesn't realize or give in to just how happy she could be because of her love for Edward.

Enter the return of Edward. He's back, she's not broken...

but feelings just don't disappear. If anything, especially when they are getting denied, they grow and possibly fester.

I don't think she loves Jacob, but she could have. He's right about that.

and because of her feelings for him, she CARES about him, and doesn't want to hurt him by completely cutting herself off from him. they are friends beneath it all, almost unbreakably.

So Bella is a bitch he makes two different guys fall for her. It happens.

----

on the movie note here are the interesting/action-y scenes of New Moon:

searching for Bella in the woods
crossing the street to the scary guy
RIDING MOTORCYCLES
running into Laurent and the wolves
the Paul against Jacob fight
jumping off a cliff
the whole Volturri and fast cars in Italy thing

and thats spread pretty evenly.

you're totally right about Eclipse though. There's nothing until the very end. It'll flop.

Heh, that makes sense. I sorta forgot about New Moon.

The problems with action-y scenes in SM books, is that they never meld in with the mindless fantasizing. It comes across even worse in a movie. Apparently in the movie Edward can fly or something (has anyone seen the trailer?).

The Ribbon Cover (Eclipse): Stephenie stated that "The ribbon for me is about the idea of you're trying to break away from your old life. And it's never a clean cut. There's always some of those threads that are so hard to break and for me that's Bella thinking that she can just walk away from her human life and it's really not that simple." As for the two threads that are still connecting the pieces of ribbon, they symbolize the ties Bella will have to cut with her mother and father if she marries Edward and becomes a vampire.

Wow, a deep cover for an otherwise vapid book. No, but I really like this thought on Stephenie's part. I didn't know she actually THOUGHT about the front covers. I did notice the first one though; forbidden fruit.

The first cover was almost entirely her idea because of the quote she used as well as the forbdidden fruit idea.

She has no idea about New Moon, that was all company.

But Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are both covers based around her ideas. It's nice when a company actually lets the author have input on these sorts of things, haha. Usually they have next to no say whatsoever, it's all in the hands of the editor.

I'd never actually heard her explanation of that cover before.

I actually really liked the character of both Bella and Kaye. Kaye was not really immature so much as creative, an I find I can really relate to Bella for some reason. Even if I did just call her immature, because she's supposedly 5 years older than me.
